Dom Henrique

The building of Hotel Dom Henrique was originally a bold project of 2 famous architects from Porto, Arq. Padua and Arq. Loureiro, who had planned the construction of an office building, which would be the first high-raise building in the city made with concrete. Only after being already built it was turned into a Hotel, after the proprietary, Mr. Afonso Pinto de Magalhaes, came to the conclusion that the city needed a good 4 star Hotel, being inaugurated in 1973. Due to its architectonic characteristics, is an important landmark in the City, on the edge of being classified as Architectural Patrimony, and is used as 'case study' at the faculty of architecture of Porto University. During these over thirty years the hotel, with its 112 rooms, the Restaurant Alem-Mar, a Panoramic Bar on the 17th floor and multi-purpose rooms for meetings and other events - highlighting the views from Room Navegador, on the 18th floor - was at all times property of the same family and has been submitted to several improvements, of which stands out a major renovation in 1985 that forced to its closure, reopening in 1986. The Hotel has 112 comfortable air-conditioned rooms, including 22 suites and non-smoking rooms, equipped with: Electronic Card key system and double security lock, Full Marble bath with speaker, Direct Dial Telephone with analogical fax/modem port and additional digital port in all suites. Rooms and suites with WLAN access also available upon request, Automatic Wake-up service (on the telephone), Colour TV with 18 Satellite channels, including all news channels and JSTV, and 2 audio channels (Radio and recorded music), Mini-bar, Hairdryer.
