Monk Coniston is a Gothic-style country house leased from the National Trust which maintains a rare tree collection in the extensive landscaped grounds. Set just north of Coniston Water in the Lake District views from the main lounge sweep down to the lake and a 20-minute stroll into Coniston village takes you to the famous Old Man of Coniston. Forests valleys and the surrounding fells make this an area of spectacular scenery. Monk Coniston designated as non-smoking has 17 en-suite bedrooms equipped with a hairdryer clock radio and complimentary tea and coffee making facilities. Televisions and telephones are not provided in the bedrooms. Non en-suite bedrooms are also available. Guests can relax in the bar drawing and garden room enjoy a game of pool or table tennis in the games room or play croquet or badminton in the extensive grounds. The country house is currently undergoing major refurbishment to the ceilings roofs and exterior walls with an expected completion date in early September. Meals are served in an informal friendly atmosphere at tables for up to eight guests. A three-course dinner is served at 7.30pm for a charge of 18 GBP per person. If you would like to dine at the country house please contact the house before 6pm to make your dinner reservation. A choice of full English or continental breakfast is offered. To allow you to make the most of your touring or walking holiday a self-select picnic lunch can be provided for the small charge of 10 GBP per person. Free car parking is available. Please notify the country house in advance if you intend to arrive after 10.30pm.Bedrooms are available from 2.30pm on the day of arrival and should be vacated by 10.00am on the day of departure.The country house is an excellent base for those on an activity or walking holiday. Nearby attractions include The World of Beatrix Potter kayaking or boat trips on Coniston Water and Brantwood a 10-minute drive away.
