Castle and Ball

Situated in the centre of Britain's widest high street the Castle and Ball has had an interesting past. It occupies a site which has had an inn standing on it since the 15th Century. From 1745 to 1763 it was called the Antelope and was renamed The Castle and Ball which may well have been a misspelling of Castle and Bull both of which are to be seen on the Borough Arms. Some of the hotel's surviving original oak timbers pre-dates the Spanish Armada. The age of the building accounts for the individual nature of the hotel including the split-level design of the restaurant without any compromise in providing everything the guests of today require. Featuring a brasserie style restaurant offering an extensive seasonal menu with a wide selection of modern traditional and international dishes complemented with a selection of real ales fine wines and speciality coffees. Our walled Beer Garden at the rear of the hotel provides a relaxing setting for those looking to enjoy a drink and a meal alfresco style. The 33 well appointed bedrooms are all comfortably furnished and individual in design and reflect the historic nature of the hotel. The Castle and Ball can now offer free WiFi.
