More than 400 years ago one of the most important houses of the Neapolitan nobility was built on the road which is known today as Spaccanapoli: Palazzo of the Dukes Carafa di Maddaloni. They possessed a huge feud in the region of Caserta one of the most important of the kingdom. The dukes Diomede Carlo and Marzio IV transformed their house in a jewel of baroque art and in a very worldly place attended by the most distinguished artists of the time. Giacomo Casanova Cosimo Fanzago Giacomo del Po' were guests of the noble owners but it is thanks to the music if the fame of the palace would pass the centuries: between the 600 and the 800 little operas oratorios serenades and concerts were put on in the little private theatre today unfortunately tumbledown. In 1734 the great musician Giovanni Battista Pergolesi worked at the service of the Duke Marzio IV. The rooms of the palace resounded until last century with the notes of the major world musicians: Magaloff Rubinstein Hayfez just to mention a few. The wounds of world war II bombings and those of the earthquake of 1980 have heavily weakened the palace causing a state of deep sufferance. However a part of this palace has come back to life and it has become the seat of annually concerts and events of high artistic value. Music has come back at Palazzo Carafa di Maddaloni and the great musicians with it together with guests soirées and art. Today everyone can be plunged in this magic atmosphere by staying in the same rooms where history for 400 years has weaved its net.
