The Château de Lignan is rather different type of establishment. Built in the ninth century on the banks of the river Orb it has managed to preserve the uncluttered beauty of its past as a fortress. In the 17th and 19th centuries it became the summer residence of the Bishops of Béziers. Fully refurbished and enhanced by works of internationally-renowned contemporary artists it is now a well-appointed hotel equiped with a lift and wi-fi connections. In the park three-hundred year old Lebanese cedars watch on incredulous at the metamorphosis unfolding before their eyes. The swimming pool is the theatre of superb relaxation.
